Genetic Engineering

GENETIC ENGINEERING

The essence of animal is nothing to change:
Pigs remain pigs; cows will be cows;
Human beings, no difference.

Light years away from the barnyard,
Alien genes swish in six o'clock cocktails
As genetic engineers create NEW DISCOVERIES!
Test-tube septuplets, rat-sized mice that iridesce,
Inflicting dystrophy on unicorns.

Crossing the sacrosanct, theologians shutter.
Reducing what has always been
God's humor to mere equation,
In a word: to man-u-fac-ture.

Praise be to microbes,
Patent plants suffering anonymously
While man plays god,
And God plays man.
